Guidelines for Submission to Fishery Modernization
1. Journal Profile
Fishery Modernization (established in 1973) is a bimonthly core academic journal administered by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China and sponsored by the Fishery Machinery and Instrument Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences. It is publicly distributed both domestically and internationally, focusing on the latest advancements in fishery equipment and engineering. The journal publishes original research papers and reviews in fields such as industrialized recirculating aquaculture, pond ecological aquaculture, offshore aquaculture, fishing vessels and harvesting, aquatic product circulation and processing, and fishery informatization.
2. Review and Publication Policies
(1) The journal adopts a double-blind peer review system. Authors may recommend relevant experts (including their names, affiliations, research fields, and email addresses) for the review process.
(2) Manuscripts undergo expert review and editorial board approval. The editorial office will provide feedback within three months, during which authors must not submit the manuscript to other journals.
(3) The journal is printed in full color. Upon publication, a page charge of RMB 400 per page will be applied (estimated based on the Word document page count if unformatted; calculated according to the page count at the first proof stage if formatted), not exceeding RMB 8000 in total. Authors will receive moderate remuneration and two complimentary copies of the issue after publication.
3. Pre-Submission Checklist
Before submission, ensure the following:
(1) The manuscript is original, with independent intellectual property rights, free from plagiarism, academic forgery, or confidentiality breaches.
(2) The content has not been submitted elsewhere or published in any other journal.
(3) All authors have approved the author list and order, with no disputes over authorship.
(4) The research complies with ethical standards, national laws, and ensures humane treatment of experimental animals.
(5) For review articles, the first author or corresponding author must hold a senior professional title (associate professor or above). First authors cannot be graduate students.
4. Manuscript Requirements
4.1 Submission Process
Submit online via the journal’s website (https://fm.fmiri.ac.cn/CN/home). Paper submissions are no longer accepted.
4.2 Structure
Manuscripts must present clear arguments, reliable data, concise language, and logical organization. Include Chinese and English abstracts, keywords, full author names, affiliations, postal codes, and details for the first/corresponding author (birth year, gender, education, title, research focus, and email).
4.3 Format
Submit in Word format (no PDFs).
Avoid multi-column layouts.
Embed figures and upload editable vector graphics (e.g., .emf, .wmf, .xls) separately.
4.4 Fonts
Chinese text: Songti.
English and numbers: Times New Roman.
Ensure clarity for superscripts/subscripts, italics, and case sensitivity.
4.5 Terminology
Include Latin names (italicized) for species upon first mention.
Chemical elements must list both Chinese names and symbols (e.g., 碳/C) upon first use.
4.6 Units
Follow GB3100~3102—93 standards. Use slashes (e.g., mL/min) for units, not centered dots (e.g., mL·min?1). Avoid adding extra information (e.g., "27.5–31.3 μmol/(m2·s)", not "μmol CO?/(m2·s)").
4.7 Headings
Chinese titles must be concise (<28 characters).
Number sections starting from "Materials and Methods" (max. three levels):
Level 1: Smaller Fourth font
Level 2: Bold Fifth font
Level 3: Fifth font
4.8 Abstracts
Chinese abstracts (≤400 words) must include purpose, methods, results, and conclusions, highlighting innovation. Extended English abstracts are encouraged.
4.9 Keywords
Select 3–8 keywords reflecting the paper’s theme, ordered as: research object → methods → content → scope.
4.10 Chinese Library Classification
Obtain classification codes via http://ztflh.jourserv.com/.
4.11 Figures and Tables
Provide bilingual (Chinese/English) titles.
Tables must be three-line tables with consistent decimal precision.
Submit editable vector figures (e.g., .emf, .xlsx) or high-resolution photos in .ppt.
4.12 Maps
Avoid maps with national/provincial boundaries. If required, use standard maps from the Ministry of Natural Resources (http://bzdt.ch.mnr.gov.cn/) and cite the source, scale, approval number, and software used.
4.13 References
Prioritize recent (<5 years) publications.
Follow GB/T 7714—2015 standards (sequential numbering).
List all authors if ≤3; use "et al." for >3.
Write surnames in full, followed by initials (e.g., ZHANG San).
Journal names must be unabbreviated.
4.14 Templates
Download formatting guidelines and templates from the journal’s website.
5. Academic Ethics
Authors are solely responsible for their content. Manuscripts not receiving feedback within three months may be submitted elsewhere. The journal reserves the right to edit manuscripts; authors unwilling to accept revisions must declare so upon submission. Academic misconduct (e.g., plagiarism, duplicate submission) will result in notification to the author’s institution.
6. Additional Notes
Manuscripts are scheduled based on submission date. Priority processing fees apply for early publication requests.
Withdrawal after submission requires a written request signed by all authors and their institution, subject to approval and fees.
The journal is included in databases such as CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and Chaoxing Domain Publishing. Submission implies consent for digital distribution; royalties include copyright fees. Declare objections during submission.
