Abstract

In order to optimize the feeding strategy for juvenile Hexagrammos otakii, the feeding rhythm and effects of feeding time on growth of juvenile H. otakii were studied. A continuous feeding treatment with fixed intervals (one day was divided into eight time periods, one treatment was set only, the feeding was carried out eight times a day) and a once satiation feeding treatment (one day was divided into eight time periods, one treatment was set for each time period, and the feeding in each treatment was carried out once a day) were adopted. The results showed that: (1) Juvenile H. otakii exhibit a 24 h diet feeding rhythm under two feeding scenarios. Two feeding peaks a day occurred at 9:00 and 15:00 or 18:00; (2) There were significant differences in feed efficiency and specific growth rate at different time periods (P<0.05) under the once satiation feeding treatment. There were better test results at 09:00, 12:00 and 18:00. The study showed that, in practice, it is recommended to feed the juvenile H. otakii 2 times every day at 9:00 and 18:00.
