In order to find out the suitable culture pond shape for the growth of second filial generation Acipenser sinensis in the recirculating aquaculture system (RAS), the effects of the culture pond shape on the growth and serum physiology of second filial generation Acipenser sinensis were analyzed. Second filial generation Acipenser sinensis with an average weight of (2.43±0.19)kg and an average body length of (63.77±2.15)cm was selected as the experiment object, and circular (YX), racetrack (PX) and octagonal (FX) culture ponds were designed for an experiment of 90 d. The results showed that the culture pond shape had a significant effect on the growth of second filial generation Acipenser sinensis. The specific growth rate (SGR) and weight gain (WG) rate of Acipenser sinensis in the FX group were significantly lower than those in the YX group and PX group (P<0.05), while the food conversion ratio (FCR) was obviously higher than that in the other two groups (P<0.05). Influenced by the culture pond shape, the survival rate of Acipenser sinensis in the FX group was lower than that in the other two groups. For the serum biochemical indicators, the results showed that the glutathione peroxidase (GPX) in the FX group was significantly lower than that in the other two groups, and there was no obviously difference in other serum biochemical indicators (P>0.05). In addition, the oxygen consumption rate in the FX group was significantly higher than that in the PX group (P<0.05), while the ammonia excretion rate had no obvious difference (P>0.05). The results show that circular or racetrack pond is suitable for healthy growth of Acipenser sinensis in RAS.
