Abstract: In order to find the effect of carbon source like glucose on the growth of phytoplankton, an experiment on carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus enrichment to water from Lake Taihu was carried out on the shore of Meiliang Bay, Lake Taihu, during 30 July to 6 August, 2015. There were 3 treatments, in which the nitrogen and phosphorus enrichment was the same, and the gradient carbon enrichment were 0 mg/L (the Control), 51 mg/L (Low Carbon treatment) and 102 mg/L (High Carbon treatment). The results was that the Chl-a of the Control and Low Carbon treatment was significantly higher than that of High Carbon treatment (P<0.05), and the concentration of TSS was not significantly different from each other in the three treatments (P>0.05). The concentration reduction rate of SRP and NO3--N in High Carbon treatment from day 1 to day 8 or from day 6 to day 8 was the highest, and the next was Low Carbon treatment, and that in the Control was the slowest (P<0.05). The results showed that glucose addition controlled the growth of phytoplankton. And the effect of glucose was mainly through the reduction of the concentration of inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus in the water, but the increased decrease of the concentration of this nitrogen and phosphorus did not get more promotion in the concentration of phytoplankton.
